omaha hiring new grads

U.S.A. Nebraska

Published

Does anyone have any info on the hiring climate right now for Nebraska. I have been accepted into 2 nursing schools in California and into Creighton's accelerated program. In California it is very hard for new grads to get new jobs. I can see that Nebraska hospitals have new grads listed but I have found a lot of hospitals do but they are not hiring. I plan on calling next week but wondered if anyone had any info /input.

Thanks...

Here is the best I can give you for my hospital...

Call and talk to them... I have a friend who just graduated who has worked as a tech while in school and was hired right in at Clarkson West.

I think the best bet is to get in as a tech and get your foot in the door that way.

Good luck and let us know what you decide!

Omaha has it's ups and downs just like any city as far as hiring goes. I hear a lot of hospitals are starting hiring freezes because of the economy. However, that could easily change by the time you get out of school. I am starting the accelerated program at Creighton in August and I hope they will be hiring new grads when I'm out. I am optimistic because there are a few new hospitals being built this year that will definitely open up a lot more jobs in the area for 2010.

On the other hand, I have heard rumors of layoffs in my classes. Also, I have heard that schools are starting to back out of their scholarships because they don't have enough jobs to place the new nurses in (or can't because of a hiring freeze).

I have 3 family members in So Cal that all got their nursing degrees within the last few years and they had no problems at all finding jobs right away. Since January, I hear it's a diff story:
