U.S.A. Louisiana

Published

Hi! Just wondering if anyone has applied to the accelerated nursing program at EJGH. Application deadline was March 15, and I am already anxious to receive a letter!! I know its going to be awhile, but was wondering if anyone knows how long it takes before getting a decision letter or interview letter... anything!

Hi all,

I recently got my acceptance letter this week for the EJGH program. My letter stated that first day of classes for the program is August 21th (thats a Friday). There is also a mandatoy orientation holding placing on Wednesday August 5 from 9am thru 4pm. I have until June 12, 2009 to accept or reject the acceptance which is this Friday.

They sent my letter last week and mentioned no hospital stipend will be awarded.

I called today to find out if it was a typo they had for the first day of classes and I was told the date is correct and it the total program spans over a 10months period. So I guess from August to May 2010 or June 2010.

GOODLUCK TO ALL OF YOU!!!!!!!!!

Do you know if the hospital is still going to help w/ tuition in exchange for a contract? How much is the tuition & is it all due up front? did you accept?

I called again and this time they are saying the first day of classes is August 21st, which makes no sense because the letter says our transcripts are due to the school AFTER classes begin. Plus it would make orientation a mere 2 weeks prior to classses -- the Tulane people are having their orientation on June 17th but not starting classes until late July. This is frustrating because I've been told August 21st, Sept 21st, and Sept 28th. I've accepted but since I have to give notice to my employer, I really need to know the actual date!

As for paying Tuition, no, the hospital is not going to pay Tuition this year. The first semester's tuition is due up front -- not sure about the second semester's, although the acceptance letter seems to imply that. If you've applied for financial aid or a student loan and haven't received it at the time tuition is due, it has to be pending at that time.

They said no Hospital awarded stipend for the program but I don't know about the work agreement contract. Tuition will be increased this year starting in the fall and it will be around $4652.50 - $5917.50 for 14-18 credits per semester. Books are an additional $400/semester.

Does anyone have an idea as to how many semester the program is for? Is it just Fall and Spring?

Thank you

Supposed to be 2 semesters for a total of 39 credit hours

Do you know what's also funny is that I checked the schedule of classes for the fall 09 term and they have nursing class starting on Aug 24 and accelerated classes starting on sept 21. I think maybe it might be for a different campus.... maybe Baton Rouge.

Wow that is like 20 and 19 credits per semester. More expensive. That means it will be about $6232.75 - 6550 per semester for 19-20 credits. Extra fees are not included such has lab fees, grad fees etc. textbooks will still be around 400 per term.

Thats alot of studying and no social life. Has anyone thought about their living arrangements? I will be moving from NY and hoping to find a place around East Jefferson General Hospital.

the website page that has the tuition and fees (don't forget those fees!) is http://www.ololcollege-edu.org/content/home-current-students-bursar-tuition-and-fees , then you select 2009-2010 under accelerated asn (accelerated associate of science in nursing program). my calculations came to $6550 for fall, $6234 for spring. i checked the chimes website a few weeks ago (it's having a server update right now so i can't look it) and came up with about $1000 in books for the fall semester but only $300 for spring. with the hospital not paying our tuition, there isn't going to be any contract.

dimecurves: i live in new orleans already, so i don't have to find a place to live. there are a number apartment complexes not too far from the hospital -- you should be able to find something.

I started looking for apartments in Metairie, LA and it is about 600 for one bedroom.

Okay, I just spoke to the lady that administers the three New Orleans accelerated programs and she confirmed for me that the FIRST DAY OF CLASSES FOR THE EJ PROGRAM IS SEPT. 28TH. I told her that the Admissions Office in Baton Rouge is telling everyone August 21st and that she needs to call them (with four Accelerated programs on staggered schedules and the main OLOL school calendar as well, I'm sure it's hard for them to keep things straight). However, tuition is due on August 21st (that's what the August 21st reference was meant for in our letters).

Dimescurves: That sounds about right for that area. Try to stay away from the frontage road apartments -- I-10 is right by them and you get the noise and exhaust fumes. Better to stay closer to Esplanade. And the closer to Severn you get, the closer to Whole Foods you'll be. :-)

Wow!!!!! What a confusion.... that sounds more reasonable. That would mean the program is from Sept to June.

I will look for apartments in those areas suggested. we should exchange contact infor since we'll be in the same location. :=) Thank you
