Hello all,
I am new student that is going to start an RN program this fall. My mother is a nurse, and although I don't like to admit it she is burnt out. She says that she can't deal with the patient's anymore and there family. I love medicine and the nursing field but, people is a whole other story. Yes, I like people in general but people can generally be annoying and/or there family. I do want to get harassed by work with patient request (small request are fine) or be hassled by the patients family (unless its a small favor). My opinion might be biased from my mother's perspective.
The second question I have is all to the older NPs and RNs have you ever got burnout, what was your cause? Did you ever get to resolve it? If so please share!

I'll hazard a quick guess that not admitting to some degree of burnout over a 20+ year career can be likened to not admitting to ever making a med error.

I think almost all people get burnt out from work, in general ...no matter what it is that we do for a living. We'd all rather be relaxing on an island next to a calm sea.
As a side note, nursing is not "medicine".
