Time will pass no matter what you do -- why not do something that matters to you!! It sounds like you've got a great attitude and the support of your family. Best of luck to you! ..actually, if God is in it, you won't need the luck.

NurseWendy, (smile) you've got a point there. Regardless--I will not get any younger. God will see that I make it, just as long as I keep him first. I want to thank you for your reply.

That was exactly my reasoning when I decided to become a nurse. I'm in my second semester of a diploma program (43 years old). I find that my years of life experience really bring a lot to my program. After being "wife and mother" for so many years, it's time for me to do something I've always wanted to do. I sure hope your family doesn't mind fast food and frozen dinners for the next couple of years, though! :rotfl:

Siouxz2...Thank goodness my husband is the cook huh.....Thank you for your words of encouragement.

No way are you "too old." Oh my gosh, we have a wide range of ages in my class. The eldest is in her mid 60's. We have married people, people with kids, and people with all kinds of different situations. You're only as old as you feel. I don't think any age is too old. The only thing is that nursing school takes time and dedication... that's the only thing that you have to take into consideration. Oh, and that supportive husband is a plus. You'll do great!

BabyRN--you are so right. It takes time and dedication. I am ready to tackle it. Yes--my husband is terrific (definite plus smile). Thank you for your time. I appreciate it.

You can do it! In my accelerated bsn program, half of the class is over 40. Nursing is a second, third, or fourth career for many people. Your maturity, experience, and kind heart are needed in our profession. Good luck!

BELLAROSA-Thanks! I needed to hear that (smile). I wish you the best now.

No, no, no! It is never too late. You are still young and have many, many years ahead of you. Actually, this is probably the best time to do it.

dphrn-You are right. This is the best time for me and I am focused. Thank you!

Well, I heard someone answer that question once with THIS question.....

How old will you be in 4 years if you DON'T go to school?

The same age, as if you do go, right?

PLN1974-Wow--I love that answer. I am going to have to use that one. I don't want to have any regrets. I am looking forward to starting. Thanks for the one liner. I love it!

Akanarn,

This is a post I posted to some time ago concering someone who asked a similar question to yours concerning their age and CRNA school. Hope this helps.

After twenty years in the restaurant business, I changed careers and started Nursing school at 46. I had a previous bachelor's degree so I went through an ADN to finish and get working as fast as possible. After 4 semesters in an ADN program I passed my boards and started working in a SICU at a Level One Trauma center. While working full-time I worked on my BSN. I finish my BSN next month. I applied to 5 schools, interviewed at all five, was an alternate at 2 and accepted at 2. I will be starting my CRNA program a few months short of my 50th birthday! Can you do it? Absolutely! You just have to decide this is what you want to do. Forget worrying about your age. I was worried about it all during school until I interviewed. It was only an issue to me. They did not care. I have been in school for the last three years non stop and will soon be going full time for another 7 semesters. If this old ....

can do it at 50, you can certainly do it at 43. Good luck!!!

I am about to finish my 8th month of anesthesia school and love it. I do not consider my age to be a disadvantage at all.

TramaTom-Thanks so much. Wisdom is wonderful. I thank you for yours. Best of luck.
