Would anyone know whether Excelsior accepts really old college credits for transfer into their A.S. program?
Or do they push taking their placement testing in order to reap funds?
I finish LPN school at end of July & have learned the local community college transition program from LPN to RN is very similar in credit hours to their full RN A.S. program.
Is this the norm across the country?
And if any of you are experienced Excelsior students or grads- it'd be great if you'd publish a FAQ thread for newbies or tell me where to find an existing one on this forum.
Thanks loads,

Thats the thing about ECE they don't really seem like a money pit. They are the only ADN/BSN school that will allow you to transfer in 100% of credits from other sources. That is not to say they are like a diploma mill, the NLN, has requirements that they have to follow to keep their accredidation. That is to say that they do accept older credits ,unlike most schools, but that depends on how old your takling, and if they lead to a degree, and what not. They best thing for you to do is to all their toll free number and talk to an admissions advisor, they'll tell you everything that you need to know.

Excelsior accepted ALL my old credits, except the nursing credits. Most of them are pretty old. And although they told me they don't accept the CLEP for the writing requirement, I was very pleased to see that they added it to my transcript and it counts for part of the humanities credit. When I took the CLEP for human growth and development back when it didn't include adulthood, but they don't require me to retake lifespan development, they just want me to take the adulthood portion -- ironically it costs more than the lifespan and will probably be a little harder but if I retake lifespan I'll be left short a couple credits so I'll use the ones I have.
As for the nursing credits, I believe an LPN with a 'B' average is exempt from Nursing Concepts 2 exams. But the one thing they don't do, I don't think, is exempt you from any other exams -- unlike your traditional college which may have equivalent nursing courses to the ones you took as an LPN. At one time they would do a review of your course content and credit you if they felt you covered equivalent material, but I don't know if they do that any more.
Definitely not a money pit. They are more than fair. When I was getting ready to apply for admission (summer 2003) the nursing advisors had me fax my transcripts so they could tell me what to expect, when they could well have insisted I pay for a formal review. It didn't 'count' but it gave me a very good idea of where I stood. They have always been extremely helpful to me.
Hope this helps!

So true, esp. the informal review. And I was told that Nursing concepts 1 and 2, basically covers the LPN curriculum, and that is why they don't take LPN program nursing credits. Is that true? I know that if you are an LPN you are exempt from Nursing concepts 2.
Thanks so much for the info on Excelsior.
The local community college does not in my opinion give any credit for your LPN certification as we have to repeat some courses & take a second version of them as well!
For an older adult student, I thought Excelsior would allow me to work 3 - 12 hr shifts, still have time to complete assignments & set my own pace.
Plus, they say they will accept varoius credits/learning experience.
Without the hassle of driving to & from campus, pressure by instructors for the nit-picky stuff usually targeted towards younger students (employability skills, dress, speech, etc) I don't need because I've already learned those lessons & don't need someone 2-5 years older than me telling me how to speak or dress, thank you very much, as I AM A MATURE RESPONSIBLE LEVEL HEADED ADULT.
Thanks again, jansailsea in SW gulf coast FL
Most colleges I'm familiar with don't consider (ungraduated) college credits old unless they are over 10 years from original completion.
If your BD was 1985...that's physically impossible for you

Ok, I'm dating myself on this one, but Excelsior accepted my University credits (non-nursing subjects) from.....get this.....are you ready?.....1975. No lap tops or palm pilots back then! Lugging those stone tablets to class for note taking was hard!:chuckle (Mind you the history class was a lot shorter. A lot less to cover, I guess!) So...yes, Excelsior does accept old credits!
Heck, mine would be from the same time slot! I decided to go back to school & felt nursing would give me the satisfaction of making a difference in this world.
Barbiedee, I'm nearly at the North American polar oppisite of you...I'm near Sarasota FL!
