I'm a med-surg/tele RN with almost 2 years neuro experience and trying to get into travel nursing. I've been working with a company in California because I'd like to take my first assignment there. My recruiter showed me a pay package example of something that was posted today. Is this the average compensation you get for traveling? $15/hour just seems really low to me, especially for California. I've never traveled before and don't have a ton of experience, so not really sure I would be able to negotiate. Thoughts? Thanks!
Estimated Weekly Compensation:
$540.00 Taxable Wages ($15.00/hr * 36 hours)
+ $896.26 Weekly Stipends
$1,436.26 Weekly Gross Compensation
-15% Hypothetical Tax Rate (adjustable based on your W4)
$1,355.26 Weekly Estimated Net Compensation after Taxes
Additional Compensation Factors:
Travel Reimbursement: up to $500.00
Weekly Medical Benefits: $50.00 towards Anthem Medical Benefits

Are they paying for housing?
No, I believe that stipend is for housing, etc.
So that is $41 an hour without insurance. Might be OK for Southern California med surg, but is rock bottom for Northern California.

15.00 is a pretty standard taxable wage. The per diem amounts they are quoting you can be double checked on the government website that this company has a link to on their own website. This by my calc. ends up about 36.00/hr, with 15.00/hr of that taxable. Doesn't look bad to me for medsurg, but I agree you might get a little more if you shop around.
that is, 36.00 per hour with insurance. I agree with the 41.00 number if you don't have the insurance/benefits. Sorry
