I have a serious issue on my hands. I went to an LPN school and graduated with honors, and now I'm not passing my NCLEX-PN. I want to eventually go nurse practitioner and am wanting to be an RN currently. I don't know if I should apply from the beginning to the RN school or if I should stick with it and do my NCLEX for the 4th time. I wasn't taught pharm at all and am so nervous about being unprepared...what should I do? I love nursing and I know I will be a great nurse. Please help.... Thanks on advance!!!

I think it's really impossible for anyone to tell you what the right/smart/best thing to do is. We really know so little about your situation.

But if you question is "If I can't pass my LPN-NCLEX, is it futile to go to school for my ADN or BSN?" If that is your question, all things being equal, I don't think the LPN-NCLEX is necessarily predictive.

I would absolutely research the board-pass rates of any school I'd consider attending. I'd also suggest that you be up front with the school and see if they will work with you to make you a better test-taker.

I don't know if that helps...

So your question is, "if I haven't passed my LPN exam after 3 attempts, should I enroll in an even more challenging program?"

Nursing school is highly competive and if you've completed an LPN program, but didnt get licensed, I'm sure they will question that. If your pharmacology knowledge is lacking, it's up to you to fix it. I'd suggest doing online CEU, attending workshops, doing whatever you need to do to fill your knowledge deficits to pass the exam.

Good luck.

We have lots of LPNs in our program that didn't go for their NCLEX and enrolled directly into RN school. No one was questioned, especially if they graduated with honors. And, guess what? Pharm is a coreq. So, enrolling in a (good) RN school seems like a win-win.
