Ok jumping in with a simple one....

Hello, I finally did it! I finally took the plunge and joined this site after shunning it when I was a student. There was just so much frustration and negativity, I had to look away to keep my faith strong enough through school. Now I am employed (2 months+) and I need help! Maybe it is here between the grumbles!

I would love to find a mentor. I work in the community for an agency that supports people with "developmental disabilities" (I like to say diverse abilities). It is basically home care but for a set group of about 12-60 people. I work with one other amazing nurse but other than that we are the only medical people for the enitre agency. It is incredibly nerve wracking to be doing delegations on trach/vents when we didn't cover that at all in school!

Yes...I know how to google and still have my books...but I am hoping to add this community as a resource as well.

So hello, please don't eat me and while we get to know each other...."can I use IV prep to swab the top of the insulin bottle and then use it on the skin?" is the question my trainee asked. I suggested not, but upon looing at the ingredients list it is very similar to plain alcohol swab. But it is friction that kills bacteria, not the alcohol so wouldn't using it on the bottle first and then the skin be a potential contamination issue...and is there something in the skin prep that could get into the insulin? (This if for a insulin pump.)

Probably overthinking this one .....what do you think?
