OHSU Accelerated BSN orientation

Published

Hi, I am hoping to be accepted to OHSU's accelerated BSN Program that begins summer 2010 (in June). I am also planning a trip out of the country in May. I remember hearing that there is an orientation before classes begin that is mandatory. Does anyone know any specifics about the dates? Thanks so much!

Hi,

Sorry, I don't have any info regarding orientation. But I did want to touch base because I also applied to the OHSU ABSN program. Are you living in Portland? Did you apply to other schools?

I haven't found anyone on this site in the program, and am eager to talk to people who know more about it as well as finding a job as a new nurse in the Portland area.

Thanks, Shelby

Hey there,

I also applied to the program but have no helpful information. I got a phone call the other day, and was all excited, but they only needed some more information about my transcripts. That was probably on Monday. Anyone have news? I also applied to the Bachelor's to PMHNP program, but I haven't been called for an interview so I don't think I got in.

Hey All-

I got a phone call yesterday (a status update) and found out I got in to the accelerated BSN program. From previous posts this sounds like the norm for OHSU; you get a phone call and then your packet follows in the mail. I hope that helps...and I wish you all good luck.

Congratulations, Lab Rat!

That is awesome!

Did you apply anywhere else? Are you definitely going to accept at OHSU?

All the best to you! That is fantastic!

Hey Lab Rat! Congrats on getting in. I too got a phone call on Monday saying I got in, so it looks like we may be hanging together for 15 months. According to the academic calendar on OHSU's website the student orientation is on the 21st of June. See you then!

Shelby - Only applied to OHSU...very stoked to be going!

Dusty - Major Congrats! Looking forward to meeting you. I'm sure we'll all be a tight group, but it's definitely nice to kind of know someone before it all begins.

Received my welcome packet last friday. Looks like orientation is actually on Friday, June 11th. See you then!

Congrats to both of you that got in! I am applying next fall. Quick ??? for you both. What was your BS major, gpa, and did you both have all of your pre-reqs done when you applied? I will still be in BI 233 when I apply....

Hey there. My first degree was in Geophysical Engineering and I graduated with a 3.8 gpa. I've been told by friend's who went through the program at OHSU that the students come from a wide range of backgrounds (i.e. engineering, liberal arts, etc..), so don't let that be a big worry. I also know that they choose students based on their cumulative gpa and their essay, so get those A's and have LOTS of people critique your essay. Also, when I applied I still had BI233 and Human Development left so it's definitely not a deal breaker. Oh, one more thing, if you haven't done so already get your Hepatitis B shots. I know you can enroll without having all your immunizations completed, but Hep B is a 6 month series of 3 shots and I don't believe you can do any clinical stuff without them. Good luck!

It's really great hearing from a few of you that you got in on your first try. It makes me feel hopeful.

I was curious if any of you who got in would be open and willing to share your essay with me.

I am a 39 year old female photographer and have just started my pre-req courses and am doing quite well so far.

I'd really like to read examples of essays that admissions (to the accelerated BS program) found impressive.

You can reach me at my email address. [email protected]

Thanks in advance for anyone who is willing to share. :)
