I have treated Ogilvie's syndrome patients but not after C/S [i work on general surgery - not OB]. I would assume that anything that causes an alteration in abdominal pressures or structure could lead to the torsion. Our patients are usually sent to the endo lab for decompression. After the procedure, they usually recover well -- we have none of them go on to rupture ... yet.

Has anyone ever had a patient develop Oglevie syndrome after a C/S? We had one the other day and it was the scariest thing I ever saw. Within hours the patient died of ruptured bowel and massive sepsis. According to everything I have read on it (and I have read a lot since then), it is very rare and happens mostly with males. One of the other nurses I work with saw it at another hospital. The patient is still alive but was hospitalized for weeks and ended up with a colostomy.
