Hi,
I have been a RN since the summer of 2011. I was having trouble finding a job in TN. My boyfriend was layed off but, soon found work in Charlotte. I moved with my then boyfriend(now husband) to NC. I took the first job that was offered to me, which was an Hem/Onc nurse position at a office that also provided infusions. I worked their for a year and 7 months. I had my first child Sept 2014. I decided to quit my job and take off a year or 2 to be a full time mom.
So now (after 1.5 yrs) I am ready to work again, BUT I want the hospital job that I never got. I want the good fundamentals of being a nurse. I believe this is SUPER important.
Any suggestions on getting into a hospital? I have my ADN and also a BS in Health Promotion. I have applied to a million jobs. I will take whatever job is available. I do not qualify for new grad internships now. Any suggestions would help.
Thank you in advance!!!

All you can do is keep applying and get out there and network. Join local chapters of nursing organizations and start making friends. You won't have much that is tempting on your resume (mostly due to the gap in your work history...chemo infusion nursing definitely uses assessment skills and critical thinking), but if you can get your foot in the door they will be willing to look past that. Best way to get your foot in the door? Networking.
When you do apply for in-patient positions, tailor your resume custom for each job you are applying for. Look at the kind of experience they are wanting, think how that applies to the practice you had in the clinic and then reflect that in your resume using as much of the same words and phrasing as the job opening ad. The computer search engines are programmed to look for specific highlights and words. The more you sound like theirs, the more likely you are to get pulled for a call.
Good luck!!
Thank you for the great advice. I will definetly try to sharpen up my resume!
