Our hospital is now a neuro-trauma center and my floor is the new NT step-down floor from the ICU. One of the complications we're now seeing is occipital pressure ulcers from where the pt's are aggitated and thrashing their heads, and also from being in aspen collars that is placing their head in a rather dependant position. Do you have anything that has worked well in situations like this? We're working on a few new protocols for things like this as well as a problem I posted in the ortho forum about breakdown under the aspen collars.
This is a whole new problem we're facing and we see it probably increasing with the evergrowing number of NT pt's if it's not addressed.
By the way....stay away from those motorcycles people! It's amazing the number of motorcylce accident pt's we're seeing, and summer isn't even here yet!
