OCCC-- starting Summer 2012, need advice!

Published

Hello! I'm 39 and switching careers. My husband passed away earlier this year, and I knew I had to make a change in my life to find another way to fulfill myself and help others. I have a degree in music, but worked in retail management for 15+ years. You can make decent money in that field, but it is not my calling. The nurses had such an impact on my husband (and me) when he was in the hospital, that I knew that I was supposed to go in nursing so I could make a difference in someone else's life.

I plan on applying to the nursing program after the fall 2012 semester is over. I need to have enough points by then. I have a few concerns, since I have not been in college for a LONG time.

1. I'm taking Overview of Nursing in the May intersession (4 days total of classes.) What is this class like? Will there be a tough final exam? I'm wondering if I should get a head start on reading the text book before the class begins.

2. TEAS-- I plan on taking it in the fall (if not sooner). Can anyone recommend any study guides or resourcesto help prepare? Can you take this test multiple times until you get the score you want/need?

3. I took math placement test (without studying at all) and I need to take math 0403. I'm registered to take it in the summer. I'd love to get out of taking it. How much math do you really need for chem? Should I consider brushing up on my math and retaking the placement test and see if I can test out of it? Do you know what would happen if I happen to score lower the second time? Would the higher score count, or the most recent?

Any help or advice anyone can give will be SO appreciated!!
