Obtaining APRN License While RN License IPN

Nurses Recovery

Published

Hi all! I was wondering if any of you have experience obtaining a APRN license while actively participating in IPN for your RN license. I have one year left of IPN, I already graduated from NP school before going into ipn btw. Thanks

Obtaining your APRN license should be okay but you will have difficulty getting a dea license

Oh thank you!! Ever? Or during the remaining of my IPN contract.

During the remaining of your IPN contract.  You will get a DEA license without problems after completion of your contract as it will suggest and show you completed recovery and have been successfully monitored.  I would ask a nurse attorney about whether you could get a DEA license while still under IPN and you need to be dang sure, 100 percent sure that you can BEFORE applying because there are consequences in the future, if you are turned down for the DEA authority.  You would have to answer this in future credentials questions and for purposes and you don't want to go down this road.  Google Nurse Attorney is Georgia.  There is an online nurse attorney you can meet with for 30 minutes and she is an attorney and APRN and could give you advice regarding confidence level on getting or not getting a DEA prior to finishing your monitoring contract.  I think it's like 200 bucks, but she is sharp and you will get a good answer.  But, after your contract, I can assure you that you will not have an issue with a DEA authorization.  That's a given.  But before the contract is completed?  That's dicey.

Hello,

I just finished my masters program while in IPN. Someone told me that once I get my APRN license, I will have to agree to a 2 year monitoring contract for that license - that is that all licenses have to have a minimum of 2 years monitoring. I have 14 months left on my IPN contract. I have not signed up to take boards. Because I want to know if this is true before I do. Any insight?

A second monitoring agreement? Seems harsh
