Has anyone ever had any trouble getting liscenced due to background? Are DUI's a deal breaker? How about an expunged felony from 8 years ago?
Thanks

This is going to depend on which state you are in. I know with the background check the BON did on me in my state, my expunged DUI from 1978 didn't show up. When I worked for the state their federal background check brought it up, expunged stuff and even a couple traffic tickets from when I went to college in OR.
As far as your felony (was it related to the DUI?) anyway, they're looking for aggravated cases that have violence, threats, kidnapping, harm etc... something that would show you could be unstable around vulnerable people.
Since my DUI didn't show up with my first background check I didn't put it on the second one for the state job I was applying for. Imagine my surprise when they wanted to know why I didn't include it in my report when I filled out the papers ... hmmmm I forgot since it was 20 years and so out of character of me (which is true). And let's not forget it was suppose to be expunged! That's it,lock me up, I'm dangerous ... it actually shows I am human with a bit of bad luck. I will always get caught no matter what when I do something wrong. It's kind of a Murphy's Law Angel sitting on my shoulder thing which keeps me inline.
Lately I hear and read on this site about ridiculous reasons some nurse's licenses are being censored ... ridiculous. Things are getting tight and we need to watch out for each other. Everyone makes mistakes, everyone. It seems theses days as opposed to when I got my RN license, many moons ago, it's more about politics then it is about nursing. (short rant over )
Call the BON in the state you're going to live in and see what they say.
