OBN granting "eligibility to test"

Published

hi all! im new to nursing and this forum. I just graduated from Xavier's new accelerated MSN program and I have a job lined up at Children's. The problem is that I can't start the orientation until I pass my NCLEX, and I can't take the NCLEX until the OBN decides to get around to making me eligible to test.

I submitted my electronic finger prints in November. My application and payment was submitted to OBN in March as was my application to test with the testing service. The only requirement left was for my school (Xavier - in cinci BTW) to submit my certificate of completion (no need for transcript or anything - just the certificate). According to the nursing department at school, the certificates were submitted on May 13. My classmates had begun receiving their ATTs by May 17. As of this very moment, I still do not have my ATT because according to the testing service, the OBN has not made me eligible to test. EVERY single one of my classmates taking the Ohio boards has already received their ATT and scheduled the nclex (the last one received hers on Thursday...).

Does any one have ANY idea what might be the problem? The testing service suggested that I call OBN and I did. Twice. And twice I got voice mail and left messages. I have also sent two emails to find out if there is a problem. I have yet to get an answer.

Any idea what the problem could be? Has anyone else had an issue like this before? The ONLY thing I can even remotely think of as an "issue" is the fact that I currently live in KY (but went to school in OH, will be working in OH, and will be taking the OH boards). Normally, I wouldn't start to worry so much but I am the only one from my program who hasn't been made eligible yet and it appears that they are in no hurry to change my status or even contact me back. My employer is waiting on my to get the ATT so that I can start my pre-employment process, and I can't even do that.

I'm just super frustrated right now so thanks for listening to the venting, and if you have ANY ideas, I would really appreciate hearing them.

THANKS!!!

They are the only ones that can clear you to sit for the exam, there is nothing else that one can do for you.

You are going to need to get thru to them, I always recommend first thing in the morning when they open their doors to call them and usually you can get thru.

You can also call and ask to speak to someone in Customer Service and see if they can help you get thru all of this.

Best of luck to you as you start your new career.

thanks! ill give that a try tomorrow.

I would also contact your school and make sure they sent your letter. Two of my classmates got their ATT late because the school "forgot" to send in their letters.

thanks for the advice guys.

i was FINALLY able to speak to a real person at OBN (after leaving countless messages and emails) and i was told that they didnt have the results of my fed background check (which i had done in november!) but they had the results of the other one. i was given the number of the fbi to call and i spoke to a very nice woman there who told me that they sent both the results to OBN back in january and that "they say the don't get stuff all the time."

thankfully, the woman i spoke to about the check said that she would email the results over to OBN again today so hopefully that will fix my problem of being ineligibile.

thanks again though for the advice! this has just been so frusterating. i can't believe no one at OBN bothered to tell me about the missing check or at least send me a letter or something if they have known this long. the least they could have done would be to return a call or email to tell me this too. :sniff: ugh. oh well hopefully its sorted now...
