I am heading to OBLC in March as a 71A with no prior service.
Are you ready?
I have gathered alot of information and it's going to be a challlenge but I think I am how about you? I will be 66HM5 (ER nurse). Will be stationed in HI.
I'm grateful that I will be heading to Walter Reed although HI was on my top three. I'm not quite ready as I still have to finish gathering my uniform and have much more research to do about the moving process. Overall, I'm excited and so looking forward to the adventure. In that sense I am ready to go.
Your recruiter should give you all that information and all the numbers for you to call. They will come to your home and pack everything for you, well that is what my recruiter told me. Good luck with everything and see you there....

Hi everyone. I am a newly graduated nurse. I will be attending OBLC March 23rd. I also will be stationed at Tripler. I am excited to meet you all... especially you NewMeAfter45. Did you all see that we will have roommates if you are CPT and below? Does this apply to either of you?
Hello Herekitykity:
Yes I will coming in as a Cpt and I did get the email with the information about the room mates. I notice you will be going to Tripler for your first duty assignment . What area? I too will be in Tripler the ER but not until June I need to go back home for two weeks to get my car and other things from home, since I was only given a short time to prepare for OBLC.
From what I understand from an ER nurse already stationed at Tripler... brand new nurses get moved around to all the different major areas of concentration for nurses so that they can decide where they want to be. I am not sure how long this is done, but I already know I want to be ER, Trauma, or ICU. My future plans that I want to do is Nurse Anesthetist. I am hoping that my commander will work with me and send me to Critical Care course as soon as "Armyly" possible. That way I can get my year of critical care under my belt and apply for their CRNA Program. I too have been in the Army for the last 8 years. Half of that time was reserves... so I am a little concerned and nervous about attending basic all over again AND trying to incorporate new nursing knowledge/skills. UGH! It makes me so nervous. So now that I have unleashed all that on you... I already live here on the island if you need help with getting around when you first come out here or finding a house and such, I can help you if you like.
Aloha,
Karen
Thank you Karen for your kindness. I'm also headed the CRNA way. I was told that I can start applying once my year is up. I do have ICU experience but I wonder if they would take the ER as experience. I'm also nervous about the OBLC but I don't think is anything like enlisted basic (I hope not ). Now that was rough. Well is getting closer to OBLC and I'm getting nervous just thinking about it. I have been working out almost everyday and I hope I pass the PT test on the first try. I look forward in meeting you there!

Hey ladies and gentlemen,
Just make sure whatever you get promised in your contract is on black and white and keep copies of it. Will you be at Fort Sam? It is interesting that you will have roomies during the course. When I went, I had my own quarters...
For those of you new to the military, stick around with the prior service ones. There is nothing more devastating than to see an officer with a messed up uniform. Since you guys are going ARMY, start preparing for the physical fitness test. It sucks to get left behind and hang around for two weeks while you attempt to pass the PT test and you wave everyone else bye as they head to their first assignments.
As for those going to overseas locations like Hawaii, make sure you have it written as a course guarantee option so you can go to your critical care course or emergency room course...but keep in mind that the army will not send you right after you have been in place for 12 months unless the command has the money to fly you out...
Good luck!
