Hi all!
We have recently changed over to a paperless OBIX system of labor charting. There is a large learning curve, but we have found that what we struggle with the most is shift-to-shift reporting without a paper chart in which to refer. Personally, I feel that my report is often disorganized and possibly incomplete. If there are any OBIX users out there who have any hints--or better yet, a cheat sheet--for report, it would be very appreciated.
Thank you!

What did you use before you went to electronic medical record? You could surely still use the same tool, extracting information from the EMR to give report. The information is still there, it is just in a different format. How do you like OBIX? How long have you used it?
if you go to the "flowsheet" tab at the top and then scroll down to "review", you can view and print a report sheet from triage, admission, delivery and for newborns. The delivery report gives a detailed account of labor, including timing of each stage, any medications used, etc. Hope that helps you.
Oh! Thank you! I'll check that out next time I am at work. We have had OBIX for about 2 months now. We are a relatively small unit (4 LDR beds) and the transition has not been smooth. We used a paper flowsheet writing narratives along with shorthand for FHTs, UCs and vital signs. (Very time consuming!) I think that once everyone gets used to the process, and finding where everything is on the flowsheet. it will be so much easier and time saving. I like it so far, and feel that it will be very beneficial to our unit. I am just a little confused at report time. Thanks for your input.
I am looking forward to getting into a groove with this system, and love anything that makes my job easier so I can give better patient care.
Thanks again!
I am there with you sister. We still use paper charting, and I can't wait to get into EMR totally. We use OBIX for surveillance only, and strip annotation. I got to know the folks quite well at OBIX so I have been demo-ing their products and have been playing around with the documentation portion. I hope it works out for you.
We do all our charting on OBIX right now, we have completely done away with paper charts...we had a triage form that had all the vital info on it (Gs and Ps, immunities, RPR, HIV, blood type, risk factors) but we got rid of it cold turkey! I feel like I am fumbling through report not having even the MOST vital of information in front of me, much less labor progress and labor events!
I will definitely look into that review of flowsheets--I am sure it will help!!
It would be nice if you could "star" something as you were charting that you know would be important to include in report and it would print out on some sort of "sign off sheet" at the end of the shift...
I love the OBIX for surveillance, especially for pit patients who need q15 min UC and FHR assessments--I hated going in the room every 15 when the patient was trying to rest and rustling the strip all around and trying to see it in the dark...so much better!!
Thanks for your help! I hope it works out for you as well!

How is OBIX charting going for you now after 1 1/2 years? Are you still using it? Do you chart on obix for postpartum, newborns and NICU? Curious about what you think. I have had comments from babyktchr. Would like a second person's point of view. Thanks.
