Hello all!
We are learning about BPP in OB class... and after reading the text and consulting with my professor I am still feeling a little lost about BPP. What does it all entail? Good vs Bad? When and why is it is done? Scenarios for explanations would be amazing! Thank you in advance for your time.

Hmm, not sure what you're confused about. It's pretty straightforward. Even wikipedia has a good description.....
Not confused... I just do not have a clear visual of the topic. But I will definitely check out wiki thank you! :)

BPP is basically an in-depth ultrasound that looks for certain criteria that evaluate the baby's readiness for birth, or to live outside the womb. A BPP is usually done in women at risk for preterm labor, such as multiples of hx of premature birth, when induction of labor is planned, if the woman is post-dates in her gestation, or when there is anything suspect about the health of the pregnancy/baby.
Categories in a BPP are:
fetal movement
breathing movements
amniotic fluid levels
muscle tone
heart rate
A full BPP also includes a non-stress test, which looks for a healthy increase in heart rate with fetal movement.
Thank you Ashley PICU! I appreciate your time. :)
