Anyone currently in this program? What's it like?
I'm not used to the harsh grading scale and am concerned it might affect admission to graduate nursing programs if I decide to pursue that.

I'm currently in the program, I started this January! I think your perception of the program depends on your current situation. In my cohort, we have someone as young as 21 and a couple people in their 50's, and many inbetween. Those that have families and kids are obviously more pressed than others like me who are single and just have to worry about the program. The first 7 weeks are known as "bootcamp". It is quite an adjustment, just now getting used to it and just finished week 6. Next week is finals. Its super fast paced and definitely keeps you on your toes but I find time to do other things. As far as the grading scale, it does depend on what you want to pursue after. In this program, you need to toss out the idea of getting 100% on everything... a lot of people are adjusting to that. The instructors too will tell you a 4.0 is not within reach, but a 3.5 is definitely doable. Another beneficial thing (in my opinion) is joining SNAOU (Student Nurses Association at Oakland University) and running for class representative. Me and another girl are the class reps (they pick two per cohort). Its another leadership nursing role to add to the resume and each meeting we usually have nursing faculty including graduate programs and deans of the CON, great way to make connections.
I'm not sure if I totally answered your question, but pretty much its theory and lab courses non stop for 7 weeks, everything the traditional students learn in 28 weeks, we learn in 7. I start clinicals in 2 weeks so I don't have too much info on that side of it yet.
Sorry this was a novel!
Before I started the program, I requested to join the previous 2 cohorts facebook group, just for advice and to get an idea of what it was like. This is the winters if you want to check it out. Winter 2016 Oakland University ASD BSN Cohort

jdens91- Which cohort will you be part of?
Thanks for the reply! I would've responded sooner but I am just seeing this now.
One last question- does anyone work during the program? Even as little as one 12 hr night shift a week.
Thank you! I tried to join a couple of weeks ago but wasn't granted access. I just messaged the admin so maybe that will do the trick.

We actually have quite a few people working in the program. Most were full time before the program and switched to contingent. I believe we have one or two working part time on weekends or do midnights...in my opinion thats almost impossible. I know one person was part time but kept having to take time off to study and switched to contingent. I guess it depends on how well you want to do in the program, a 12 hr shift a week shouldn't be hard to do at all. That might change during clinical, as we do 2 12 hours plus class.
