I have a strong influence of sales and marketing background in my family with earnings that are pretty good. They think that my decision to be a male nurse is a little sketchy.
I want to do this for all the RIGHT reasons (been a CNA and love it) as well does my wife (who is In the nursing core of school). We hope to travel as soon as the kids are grown. So, my question being.....
What is your best year yet ($$$)?
I know it's a forward question but hey it's the internet:)

I don't think providing them with any figures will do much. I understand the common sales/marketing attitudes and ingrained mentality since I was an insurance broker for many years. Let me guess...you get a nose crinkle and puzzled "ah, why would you want to be a nurse?"
I don't think this has to do with earnings, but rather a discomfort with bending gender traditions (male nurse) and a lack of respect for nursing (unconscious) and unspoken view that nurses are handmaidens to those who really matter, (((DOCTORS))).
Now, I'm not beating up on your family. I'm just stating semi-conscious uspoken thoughts that are so common. I still get the occasional "Why don't you just become a doctor?" The implication there is that nursing is not a profession in its own right.
You can tell them you are going to make $85k per year, but most likely it will not alleviate their gender/nursing discomfort and lack of understanding of the profession. Because after you discuss these things, you will probably get something like "Well why don't you become a microbiologist, pharm rep, physician assitant?" I would bet money that most of their questioning is because nursing is a traditionally female profession, and you are a man.
