NYU SECOND DEGREE TRANSFER BSN Spring 2022

Published

Hi anyone ?! I’m in California and moving to New York this year and applying as a second degree transfer to the non accelerated program (I have yo take pre reqs still ) for nursing at NYU for Spring 2022 and I believe that application comes out in august and just wanted to know if there was anyone out there like me so I’m not alone ..

I really never thought I could be a nurse and everyone always suggested it for me but I thought I wasn’t smart enough. I graduated with a BS in Child Development two years ago and I believe my last year into it I had realized I didn’t want to be a teacher but I kept going as I didn’t know what I wanted to do and I couldn’t even see my future either. After having breast reduction surgery, all the nurses along my way of that process were so kind and let me rant to them like I am now and they kept being up nursing too and I wondered am I smart enough to do it ? It’s not like I ever pushed myself honestly I had no passion in what I have done throughout jobs or school especially when my dad and cousin died within two years of each other when I was starting college and ending so my GPA is a 2.55 from CSUF even though in HS I was a 4.2 GPA but you can clearly see from there, I was in ruins and was pretty much a ghost going through the motions of whatever I could in school and whatever was easiest. But this, I can actually close my eyes and see myself working hard and passionately so I’m hoping I get in and can start this journey since I’m 26 now and I already feel so old and so behind. I would love to hear about anyone else who is gonna be doing the same program as me ! I’d really like to make friends as I’m from California and won’t know anyone except my bf and his family ?

Hey heyyyy!
Born and raised New Yorker here!! How exciting for you to move here from California, it’s nice to meet ya!
I've been waiting for someone to start this thread for the Spring 2022 cohort! I had made the unwise choice of applying to one ABSN program for the Fall 2021, which was Mount Sinai. But now I’ve personally chosen not to go with them and I’m set between NYU and Columbia!

Your GPA shouldn’t define your intelligence and confidence, it’s just a number. Just make sure for your pre reqs that you are taking are above at least a C! I’d love to get to know you as well! Especially in fast paced programs like this, it’s best for us to get to know each other! :)

Yes!! Finally! Ahaha I kept searching and searching and nobody had anything which I get since everyone I’m sure is focused more on fall but my prepared *** is like Spring IS AROUND THE CORNER AHAH

that would be so amazing! I seriously want friends ?

that is amazing! Is there one you hope for more than the other ?? My mother in law did her bachelors in NYU and then masters at Columbia ! She praises Columbia a lot !

I agree that’s why I’m still nervous haha but I’m really trying to be hopeful and know I can prove I’m worth that chance !

Hi! I'm so glad someone made this thread. Applications are out so soon and I am beyond nervous, but I hear NYU really looks at you holistically, which is great because I don't think your grades should be able to define you or what you can do either. There's so much more to being a nurse than JUST what kind of grades you make.

OMG yes ! I agree ! Especially when my grades had nothing to do with science or nursing so I feel like they really shouldn’t be considered !! But yay! Another friend !! What was your first degree ?!

Hey guys! Have they already opened up applications??? Because I’m on the common app and I don’t see NYU has opened up their applications yet?

Hey girl heyyyy!
Columbia is definitely the dream school for anyone! But honestly I hope for NYU more one because of location, I live in South Brooklyn so the commute is easy! And number 2, Columbia offers a Masters Direct Entry with an option to go for DNP, which is what I want to do!
There are mixed feelings about being a new RN with a Masters (no bachelors) and going straight for NP without at least a year or 2 experience. That’s why I would prefer the ABSN program and I can go for my DNP- Family Nurse Practitioner either at NYU, Columbia, SUNY Downstate, Hunter etc!

You are definitely worth the chance and I sincerely hope for us who are going to apply gets accepted! We will be a team! ?

Noo not yet !  August 1st I believe is when it opens up !! But you can always message the admission at NYU just to double check !

that would be so amazing! NYU is the dream for me for sure ? and it would be so much closer too since I plan to live in Staten Island !

your dream sounds so amazing! You’re seriously gonna achieve it !!

Thanks ! I hope so too ? we’d be a dream team!

I’m applying as well! Little nervous if I’ll get in, I’ve been accepted to Drexel and I’ll have to put a deposit down but still want to see if I could get into NYU and go there instead!

Yay! Good for you for having two schools though! I just am applying to NYU so fingers crossed for both of us ? ! I’m nervous too! I think about it every day ?

I noticed that NYU extended their deadline to November. Im having concerns about how fast they will make a decision as the program starts in January...

Hey!
I actually spoke to Ryan from the admissions and he told me students can expect to hear a decision some time between late October to December!
November is the general deadline, but priority deadline I believe should be September 15th, so they start immediately after that in regards to making decisions!
good luck! :)
