NYS PAP

Nurses Recovery

Published

Hi I was wondering if anyone has completed the PAP in NY? My clock "officially" starts in May when I finally go back to work, I've been out for 8 months due to showing up to work hungover. I've also never been contacted by an investigator or OPD, and never received anything in the mail about being reported or anything. This whole situation is just terribly stressful, and a bit ridiculous considering I don't have any substance abuse issues.. but gotta do what I need to I guess.

You're not the only one who has to play this game who doesn't have a SUD.  You were reported to a php? In some states You're not reported to the board.

My job said they were reporting me to OPD when it happened, but I haven't heard anything, no letters in the mail, no phone calls.. I'm in the program now so I won't even hear from OPD anyway, but IDK how NY works when it comes to that so I'm not sure if I was reported to BON as well.

You were hung over at work and were honest about it so all this?  It's really ridiculous how many people pay the price for a diagnosis they don't have.

You self reported to the program?

What is OPD?

Yuppp. I get random panic attacks at times, and being hungover doesn't exactly help.. walked into work (didn't feel hungover at all tbh), but I was feeling a bit panicky while driving in and walking in.. within 10 mins of receiving report, my coworker felt the need to assume I was under the influence because I seemed "anxious". So she told the supervisor and they tested me via breath and I had traces of alcohol still 13 hours after my last drink. So they suspended me, reported me to the office of professional discipline (OPD) (so they say) and had me apply for the PAP program. Apparently I'll face misconduct charges of being impaired at work AND being an addict. So I have to comply with this BS for 2 years in order to keep my license clean 🫠

2 years? The usual least amount of time is 3 I thought

I have definitely learned a lot from reading posts.  I'll never drink the night before work after this is over though I rarely drink Traces of alcohol could have been mouthwash.

Yeah in NY it's only 2 years. I never drink the night before work, even if I work evening shift, but they swapped my weekends on me and I completely forgot. Lesson learned. Still don't think this whole thing is necessary though, but nothing I can do now
