I don't know about the public hospitals, but the private hospital systems (NYU, Presbyterian, Mount Sinai) won't hire RNs without a BSN and NYU won't hire a new grad without a 3.5 GPA. NYC is a tough market, so you may want to apply to nursing homes in the meantime, even better if you meet someone who can refer you. You'll probably have a better chance once you're there, as well. Good luck!

I am an experienced nurse (almost 2 yrs) and qualified for inpatient positions.
I am moving to Brooklyn next month from out of state. I've received call backs from recruiters but once they realize I'm out of state they just end the process. Even though I have my RN license in NY. It's very frustrating for me and adds to the stress of not having a job lined up. Luckily, I will be moving in to my partner's apartment and I don't have to pay rent until we find a new place.
I also am planning on going back to school, but I wanted my employer to help with tuition reimbursement.
It's a gamble with moving to the city without a job. If worst comes to worst, I'll stick it out in a nursing home until I finish my BSN.
Anyone else feeling frustrated with finding a job in NYC?
