I am doing my pre-reqs now and hope to get into the Fall 08 program. Any feedback whether positive or negative would be appreciated!

TIA

Kamryn2007, I know you are absolutely right I tell myself that all the time, it just gets a little hard at times ha. Congratulations to you by the way for getting accepted! If you don't mind me asking, what were your grades in the pre-reqs? Do you know anything else about the waiting list deal? What made you choose SB over SCC and when did/do you start the program? What is SB's requirements? If you have any other advice or info you can inform me with I'd be more than happy to know!

Thankyou

thanks russl66,

i am not sure of your circumstances as to tell you which is a better option, but as for me, I am older and have had my college degree from stony brook already in pscyh, i thought that it did not matter for me to get a associate vs bachelor, but when it comes down to it, eventually you would want your bachelor or higher. MY grades were average in the pre-reqs I had A in psych, B in english, B in anatomy I and B+ in anatomy II, but suffolk and sb both put me on a waiting list,,, which was strange, b/c they are both so different, and the sb requirement in some ways is stricter, but in some ways are suffulk requirements were strict, anyway, they are both different, sb wants a lot of things, suffolk just wants the best grades in 4 pre-reqs. sb wants overall good applicant,,they are not stuck on the As in the pre-reqs. they want good letters of recommendation, good personal statement, VOLUNTEER WORK, preferably in more then one place,,,,hmm what else,,,oh and grades are also impt, they too like it if all your pre-reqs are DONE you have grades for them, hmm,, and the reality of it these days is that more and more hospitals want bachelor level nurses, the market really is bad right now for associate level, at this time, but this can change by time you and I graduate. I have just finished my first semester at stony brook and will start my second jan 25th,,its a great program, and I dont regret making the choice,,,, but again, I always recommend informations sessions, and stony brook has them every month, we also have a very active pre-nursing society who are very eager to help perspective students, so please head on over to stony brook, get to know the people, join an info session and join the pre-nursing society,,and it will not be a waste of time, I promise.

good luck

Kamryn2007, I agree I think your choice for going to SB was a good route for you. My friend who was in my Anatomy class just got her acceptance letter into SB's accelerated BA to BS program starting for Fall2010. She was sort of in the same position as you and went back to become a nurse and got right in!

As for me, I currently volunteer in the ER in a hospital. I chose to volunteer just to get some experience and get my feet wet and to see what goes on. I enjoy it, I've been doing in for about 3 months now. My grades in my pre-reqs are:

A= Eng101

B+=Psy101

B+=A&P I **

B+=A&P II **I was literally a point and a half away from getting an A in both anatomys!

Micro= taking now, Spring 2010>>>shooting for that A!

how do you think I stand?

And when did you get your letter in the mail from Suffolk??

If you know of anything else let me know.

-Thankyou

yes I know all about those kinds of unfair grading, it happened to me also,,, as far as your grade they are of course excellent grades and in IMHO I think you have a really good chance of getting in,

but Like I have said it so many times in this thread over and over, its all about what you are up against. the pool of applicants will determine where you fall,,,

by the way I have my micro books the text and the lab books, the text is in excellent condition, but I have written over the lab book, which if you ask me is pretty helpfull, if you are interested, let me know, I going there may this friday to sell them back at the book store if I don't sell them on my own.

good luck.

Kamryn, thank you and I hope your opinion will be right! ha but yes I know what you mean. I am looking very forward to taking Micro next week. I have heard it's very interesting and much different than Anatomy. I usually look on ebay once I find out the required texts for my classes and get pretty decent deals. I might be interested if you don't mind, however I like to wait once class starts to find out what they want for the required texts, but I'm not sure if you would want to wait that long.

Im starting micro on tuesday with Sangeet Honey. I wouldnt say I'm psyched to start it, but I'm more itching to hear if I get into the suffolk program or not.

Hi Kamryn,

I just wanted to let you know that I received my letter from Suffolk and I am on the waiting list for the Grant campus. I guess I can't be fully disappointed, at least I was not denied! They said this semester was one of the most competitive semesters. I just hope now that I will possibly hear some good news being that I have a 50/50 chance so we'll see. How long did it take until you heard your response from the waiting list? Did they say how many seats opened up and how were you notified?

Hope to hear from you soon!
