NY and NJ hospitals that are willing to accept new grads

I graduated in May 2013 and got my license in July.

Since then, I tried my best to find a hospital job. I only got 2 hospital

interviews but both of them hired someone with more experience.

I was hopeless and frustrated because all hospitals seemed to want experienced RNs

but where can I get that experience from??

So I decided to take any RN job first to gain some RN experience.

I started my first RN job at a surgical center in NJ but this is a per-diem job. they call me

about once a week and sometimes they would calll me the day before and say I don't

need to come since there are not enough cases.

I desperately want to work in a hospital. becoming a nurse was my dream and

I can't wait to pursue my career.

I did my preceptorship in NICU and I am very passionate about taking care

of sick babies and children. but as a new grad, finding any hospital job was

difficult.

does anyone have an advice on what I should do

anyone knows an unit at a hospital that hires new grad?? I got both NY and NJ RN licenses.

I would appreciate every little comments :)

Do not give up!!! working in a hospital is not far from reach, but you have to have experience under your belt. They are great other places to work other than a hospital setting. Do not pigeon hole yourself. Take this opportunity to be a well rounded nurse who is flexible and willing to work anywhere. A rn is a rn no matter the setting!

which two hospitals called you back?

i got my rn in 2010 and just finished my bsn last month. i am also ny licensed. as far as hospitals go, back in 2010, i had my hopes up and only got one call from the hospital of special surgery in manhattan, but that opportunity was lost since i wasn't enrolled in a bsn program at the time. i applied to every place possible within reasonable distance from every place i had family and friends in case i had to move (from toms river to brooklyn). never got any calls back. i continued at my sub acute rehab (lpn since 2006).

about a year or so after that i applied at a couple hospitals on a whim and got two calls back. one at jfk and one at capitol health in hopewell. by then i was a nursing supervisor and halfway through my bsn program. jfk was really eager to hire me, like the recruiter was almost aggressive and chasing me down. capitol health offered me a job. i ended up turning them down because the hours and 40 minute drive were not ideal. two weeks prior to my supposed start date at jfk, i called the recruiter telling him i needed a definite offer so i can formally put in my two weeks. they ended up dropping me, which was a shock since they were shoving the job down my throat. no regrets though. i wouldnt have been able to finish my bsn program if i had taken the offer at capitol health.

so now... about another year later. finally finished my bsn. i've been applying to every hospital from long island to long branch. no luck yet. no calls. a handful of rejection emails. this bsn degree hasnt worked its magic yet.

i hope something happens soon. sallie is hunting me down!!!

every year that goes by, the requirements for employment at hospitals grows. it used to be an rn nursing license. then a bsn. then one year experience. then two years. now i see postings for 3-5 years experience in at least med/surg.. the magical unit that opens the gateways into nursing job heaven, yet impossible to get into.

the farther into the boonies you go, the better the chance. i also started looking into military nursing...
