Hi all -
I am taking the NCLEX after a long absence from nursing that took me into a great career - but - I missed nursing. After my absence, practicing safely and being up-to-speed on medications and procedures is my top priority. Deeps dives into current nursing curricula is helping a great deal - but book learning isn't enough. I want to do an in-depth clinical skills refresher program before I step foot into a working nursing environment.
So, my application is currently wending its way through the NY BON application process. A Limited Permit is possible, but I can't find a hands-on refresher course that will accept a Limited Permit license. There are hospitals/clinics that will accept a Limited Permit for work. But - I would prefer a hands-on refresher before accepting a position, if at all possible. I am currently working through a 55 CEU Return to Nursing program, but again - it is online with no clinical component.
I see no mention made of refresher courses as part of a return-to-practice framework in NY - which seems a bit odd.
Is this something that the BON could make a part of the licensure process on a case-by-case basis? (I would have no problem with that - as long as I have a license that would allow me to do so...!)
Do you all think that a Limited Permit observation/working under a licensed preceptor could take the place of a more formal refresher course as a last-ditch solution?
Thanks in advance for all of your wise counsel!

(I also wish that I could have entered a statement into my application file indicating my intention to complete additional training and clinicals before accepting work....)
