Partly to counteract the effect of "negative" posts and partly because it's the day after Christmas and I'm feeling overly happy .... here's some thoughts for the day. :)
Do you remember why you became a nurse? Remember that feeling when you got your acceptance letter? I do. It was just over a year ago and I'm now getting ready to start my second semester of the nursing program. I love it. It fits me. I'm sitting here smiling as I type this. The support from my family and friends has been overwhelming. They look at nursing and see that it takes someone special to do this job. And my co-workers at the hospital (where I'm a tech)? Sure, on crazy days, they ask me sarcastically "and why did you want to be a nurse"? But then they smile at me and tell me that I will be a great nurse. They support and encourage me, too, in ways that I never imagined. I know that I could call on any nurse I know and ask just about any favor and they would do whatever it took to help me. That's just how most nurses are.
Any point to all this? Not really ... I just want to share the happiness that I feel right now. My family is healthy (okay, other than the winter colds and flus), my friends are happy and feel loved, I'm in nursing school which is where I've wanted to be for so long, I have a job that I love and life is just darn good. Is it perfect? Heck no. We have no money while I'm in school so I can't shop like my addiction wants me to, my family has had it's losses this year and my time is no longer my own now that I'm in nursing school. But I'm happy.
I want to be a nurse. I love nursing. I love the ups and the downs of it all. It's where I want to be.
Anyone else have any good thoughts to share today about nursing? :kiss
Well alright! A positive nursing post. I'm a BSN student due to graduate May of 2004 and I'm loving what I'm doing. I have a previous degree in another field and worked years sitting in front of a computer. I'm blessed for the experiences I've had as a nursing student and I'm grateful for the opportunity to become a nurse!:)

Thanks, Sarah, for reminding me that there's more than one kind of nurse! My dad is a LPN ... you'd think that I'd remember that and recognize it!
Here's to all LPNs, RNs, LVNs, BSNs, MSNs, PNs or whatever other name we have for it ... no matter what the name, we're all here because we love nursing!
Woo Hoo for Us! :)

Wow, thank you all! This is great! I am so excited to start my clinicals! I'm still completing my pre-req's, I start my clinicals Fall 2004, with an anticipated graduation Spring 2006.
As a full-time employee, father of 3, husband to a wonderful wife, life is so busy. Sometimes I question whether I truly have time for all of this schooling, but my family reminds me that it's worth it and this website is an excellent site for inspiring stories, like this one.
Thank you all, for the uplifting and inspiring stories!
