Nursing at Valencia College

Published

Hi Everyone!

Just had a few questions for those who have been through the nursing program at Valencia College.

I attended Seminole State College back when they had an evening nursing program. I'm a medical assistant, and I thought the schedule worked out just fine with work/school/family, that is until they changed it, now they only have a day time program. I finished all my pre-reqs but because of that set back I had to stop school and try to figure out a way I could work and attend school at the same time. I cant afford to just stop working, also part-time hours just wont cut it. I changed jobs, and the schedule is somewhat manageable. I decided to enroll at Valencia, I have yet to apply to the nursing program. I want to finish school, nursing is my passion, but sometimes it just seems like a dream I can't reach. Everywhere you read that it's almost impossible to maintain a full time job and attend nursing school at the same time, and this is where my disappointment comes into play. I feel like I'm so close yet so far away. Sometimes I just want to give up, but I already invested that time to finish my pre-reqs. What is the schedule like once you start? Is it as bad as people say it is? Is there someone that has worked a full time job through the entire program? I guess I just need a little encouragement :(

Do not give up!! I am in a similar situation. I started the program this past semester and the first semester is the most time consuming it seems like. I went Monday-Thursday two days was 9-4 the other two were 9-12. But I am starting my second semester now and we go 3 days a week. One day is clinical which is all day and the other two are from 8-11. So working full time this semester would be possible. I have a class mate who worked full time and he did okay. I worked part time and I have a 2 year old at home so my scheduled was booked solid the whole semester.
