Nursing Textbooks

Published

Hello everyone, I will start the Nursing Program this coming Fall and as of right now I'm looking at purchasing the scrubs necessary along with the textbook pakcage, I need to get a CPR card and visit the doctor for papers to be signed and possibly vaccines so I'm trying to minimize my expenses. Does anyone know where I can get my books for a cheap price? I live in Phoenix, AZ.

Check ebay, half.com, amazon, etc. You don't necessarily need brand new books, but check the syllabus and book store first... some classes require your books have codes, cos, or come in special packages that you'll need to buy from the bookstore, ... or previous students.

Certain classes you can get away with the the previous edition of the text book, but Che k with your professor's first about that, sometimes they can be out of date.

I used bigwords.com to buy my textbooks. You search each book you need by title or isbn and then add it to your "bookbag" and when you're done and ready to checkout it will search the entire internet for you to find the cheapest prices on each book. There are a ton of other settings you can put in too.

Yeah I thought about that. I have checked a few sites like Amazon, chegg.com but they don't seem to be the "package" my paper states. I think I'm just going to go for the package at my college which they say it would be at a discount and available in July, about $700.

If you can find a student with books for sale, you can usually buy access codes separately from the school bookstore. Often the cheapest way to go is to buy texts from students. Look around the nursing school offices for books for sale signs on the bulletin boards.

You can also POST a sign on a bulletin board seeking text books. You don't have to wait for the current students to put up their own flyers.

Try going to the bookstore, and getting the ISBN. This will allow you to search for the books, and make sure they are identical.

The package bundle is often nothing special. Just the books put together and wrapped in plastic. Try contacting the bookstore, your professor, or possibly a current student to find out if there's something unique there. If they are just the books wrapped up together, you can probably find them for less money if you buy them individually through some of the sites already suggested on this thread.

Personally, I'm a little annoyed because some of the books I bought were in a bundle (5 books), and we never ever even opened two of them. I don't know if your program gives you a mentor or some sort of current student contact, but that would be a great way to find out which books are likely to be used, and which aren't.

If it's a book you only need for a semester, you might consider renting. You can do that through Amazon, and it saves you the hassle of trying to sell your books at the end of the semester. If it's a core text you'll need for a year or more, better to buy it.

Finally, previous editions can save you SOOOO much. Some professors will be upfront and tell you that the old edition is practically the same (my community health professor even provided the equivalent page numbers for both the old and new editions - glad I spent $11 on Amazon for the earlier edition rather than over $100 for the bookstore version). Other professors will caution you that the material might not be up to date. However, I personally have found that there is rarely much difference other than some page numbers, pictures, or formatting differences. In some cases, even the page numbers are identical.

True,(as far as past editions) I have noticed that in past pre requisite classes, thanks. I actually thought of looking at Craigslist today and found a girl that went to same program as I will be going to and she had the books and scrubs! All for $120. I hope this works out though. Thanks for the tip though:up:
