is nursing for me?

Published

Hi everyone,

I've been a nurse now for around 7 years, i worked 6 years in Med-Surg. I now after 2 kids have started working in a Pedeatric clinic. The work is alot slower than at yhe med department. Lately , I 've been feeling that I don't have what it takes to be a nurse, I'm a very friendly kind person, but I'm awful at drawing bolod from kids, I've been at this clinic for 5 monthes and I keep missing the veins, It hurts me so bad to know that I'm hurting these kids, and they are so innocent.I am so afraid to make a mistake on someone.

I have always been hysterical about making mistakes(with calculations - I'm terrible at Math), but now my fears have just escalated.Iam also put by myself alot at the clinic, when I am used to working as ateam, always having someone to consult with.

Am I in the right profession?

You're not a bad person. You must be doing something right. Just keep going, and keep your self-confidence. Obviously, you have had experience in nursing for 6 years so it may just be for you. I can't even get my foot in the door let alone obtain or earn a job because I am a student. You seem to have alot of experience to me that you are compassionate and caring towards children. It's so easy to be hard on ourselves. You're doing a great job. Keep it up, and if you want to talk more message me Im all ears as well.

Thanks so much for he kind words. You are a student and have a your whole life to be a nurse, you'll get that job soon enough!!!
