Nursing Student Planning for the War Ahead

Published

I need tips from RNs and nurse recruiters - especially those living in upstate NY!

I currently live in NYC and finish nursing school next June (2014) WITH MY ASSOCIATES (:poop:). From the nightmares I've heard of in the city - I'm planning on relocating upstate (Rochester, Buffalo, Plattsburgh, Delhi, middle of nowhere). Hopefully I'll have better luck that way? I'm also willing to relocate to a different state, just not a fan of out of state tuition elsewhere. I'm planning on starting my BSN next fall (2014) or spring (2015). I know most new graduates are having a ridiculous time finding a job. I'm hoping however I'll be a competitive applicant because:

  • I have 2 years CNA clinical experience
  • I am willing to work in ANY department
  • I am looking to take an online BSN degree so that I'm available for any inconvenient shifts.

Do any of you working RN's have any other ideas or opinions? I'm single with no kids, no family ties, and I'm not afraid of relocating!!

ALSO:

1. If you have any recommendations on AFFORDABLE online RN-BSN options that would be appreciated. The schools I'm looking at now are costing $3,000 - $5,000 per semester which I can handle. Side note - it's more than disturbing schools cost twice the rent ($5000/4 months = 1,250 month), but I digress .

2. Any information on traveling nurse agencies that hire ADNs is awesome!

Thanks!

Sincerely,

Preparing for battle.
