So I've recently finished nursing school- and now my loans are beginning to come due. I find it crazy that a job, like nursing, can't get their loans repaid easily. I've tried every avenue I can think of and can't come up with a thing!! My loan repayment will be over 1000/month!! It's crazy... nursing is a higher paid profession but still, something's gotta give :\
I will be able to afford it fortunatly... but there are A LOT who aren't. an aweful lot. I too went to a private college, at the time, my step father was a CFO of a large company who was doing quite well, then the stock market fell and many companies closed, he was let go, now my mom/step dad live off of the generous sallary my mom makes, but she does not manage her money well at all, she spends more than she makes unfortuantly. Ultimatly the agreement was if I got my bach. in any school, they pay, since he lost his job and she can't manage, it's up to me, which I can't expect anything else anyhow. I knew in the back of my mind that it could fall back on me (duah, the loans are in my name), just wish it didn't. I also wish I'd chosen a state school... but water under the bridge at this point, right? :)
I appreciate your realistic attitude and acceptance of the responsibility for your decisions. But unfortunately, you will probably have to keep up the hard work ... live VERY frugally for several years ... and pay those loans down.
Get creative with your lifestyle and learn to live on next to nothing. A lot of people do it and you can, too. I did it for several years while putting myself through grad school -- lived on about the salary I had previously made as a staff nurse. If you lived on only half your salary and put the other half towards your loan, that would be great.
Good luck to you.

omg join the military and have them pay it off for you! 1K a month is ridiculous!
i remember reading an article on yahoo about a girl with a liberal arts major or something and she ended up owing close to 100K after getting her bachelors. she went to a private college. the comments on the article were hilarious. no one could understand why this girl continued to pay outrageous amounts of money for her college degree when it had no return for her. i'm not saying that it's the same situation for you but considering the average pay for a nurse, you may need to pinch your pennies and begin a liking for ramen for a while...unless your family is loaded. that's always a nice thing. i really wish it all works out for you my friend.
