Nursing student in Germany wants to do an internship in the USA

Hi,

I am a nursing student in my first year of a 3 years program in Germany. In the third year I am allowed to do a 6 weeks internship in a foreign country. It would be very interesting to absolve the internship in the USA. Can anybody help me to find an appropriate clinic anywhere? I would love to work on a ward, like an Associate Nurses.

The problem is the Visa. I will need a J- or H-Visa for this period of time. Although it is not that hard to apply for, the US-Clinic have to fill out the DS2019-Format. Until now every clinic I mailed to is not willing to do this small thing.

please help :wink2:

The only visa that you could get for the training here is the F-1. The other visas that you mentioned are for those that are already licensed in that area. Such as an RN coming here to do six months of work in an operating room in a specialty area that was sent by her hospital. The H series visa would require that you are already an RN and have passed the US nursing license, but it has not been available for nurses for more than three years. You only have the F-1 and nothing else to use. All others require that youj have graduated from nursing school.

For the student phase, we have externships. Internship means that you have graduated from an approved program. For what you want to do, it would have to be thru an approved school of nursing here for you to get credit for it. You will not find any clinics to sponsor you for this in most cases. As a student, you need to have a preceptor responsible for you.

Things are done differently here.

It is way too far out to even try to plan something like that. You will not get a positive response from most at this early in your career.
