Nursing Student = CNA?

Published

Hi,

I am a nursing student who is almost half way through my program. I need to know if nursing students in Florida can work as a CNA in a hospital.

Thanks!

To clarify - you can work as a nurse tech in the Tampa area after your first CLINICAL semester. USF students don't take clinicals until semester 2, so we couldn't get tech jobs until we'd done 2 semesters unless we took a CNA course. I never did it, since I was an accelerated student, but from applying for RN jobs I would certainly advise calling to follow up on online applications. Most of the traditional students and some acclerateds in my class found jobs easily, so it wasn't too tough last year...however, I know TGH in particular has had some serious budget issues lately, and they keep going on hiring freezes. Call HR at each hospital, some should be hiring.
