Nursing student BSN

Published

I am currently a student going for my Bachelor of Nursing Science graduating in the Fall of 2017. I plan to work as a RN for about a year and then return to school and get a Nurse Practitioner degree. I was just wondering if it was worth it to get a Practitioner degree?

It is hard to answer whether any endeavor is "worth it" in a vacuum. It depends on what type of work you want to do, what type of responsibility you would like, your own personal values on education, your financial and personal situation and other variables that only you know. Even looking at a purely economic context, it depends on your options for graduate school. For me, although I probably will not work enough years as an NP to compensate me for the graduate education I paid for, I enjoy the increased autonomy of an NP and the more significant role that I can play in a patient's life and medical course.
