Does anyone know how the point system works? I am applying to Kapiolani Community College. They give points for every grade depending on the class some points are higher example.

A in Zoology is 16 points

A in Math is 10 points

etc........

There are so many schools across the US, all with different pre-reqs, entrance requirements, acceptance rules. You might have a better chance of help with your questions on the particular community college if you post your question in the "Nursing Discussions by Location" forum, then going into the "United States Forums" then clicking on your particular State and starting a thread there.

Good luck on acceptance!

Hello,

It appears they are using a 4 point scale. But some vary...

A = 4 B = 3 C = 2 D = 2 and F = 0. Then it goes by credit hours for the class.

If your class is worth 4 credits and you receive an A (4 pts) then you mutliply 4 x 4 = 16

Then it depends if the college uses A- B+ B- C etc... or if they use AB, BC, CD. We use AB, BC, CD, etc... So it would go

A = 4...... AB = 3.5 ...... B = 3 ...... BC = 2.5 ..... C = 2.... etc

Each school is different though. If someone transfers to our college and they got an A- there (even though we don't use it here) they get 3.61 because it is technically higher than an AB of 3.5.

EX:

Math B (2 crd) is 3 x 2 = 6

English AB (3 crd) is 3.5 x 3 = 10.5

Chem A (4 crd) is 4 x 4 = 16

--------------------------------

9 crd 32.5 crd hours

divide 32.5/9 = GPA of 3.611

Sorry this was lengthy but that is basically how it works for a 4 pt scale
