Ineffective Coping or Grieving?

Can someone clarify for me the difference between these two nursing diagnoses? I am working on my first hypothetical care plan that will be a graded assignment. And while I am not allowed to disclose specifics about it, I would like clarification on these two diagnoses. I would welcome any and all feedback. Thank you!

In my opinion, I think grieving more specifically deals with the loss of a loved one while coping is more general and includes dealing with any kind of stressor. Without the details, it's hard to make a recommendation for you, but if it has to do with the loss of a loved one, I would go with a Grieving diagnosis, and then Ineffective Coping for anything else.

Good luck on your care plan!

in my nursing courses, we use edition 11 of the nurse's pocket guide by m. doenges, et al.

describes in detail Dx, interventions, rationales.

if you are going to have to do any number of care plans, I recommend this as a reference. it's not an inexpensive book, but I couldn't have made it thru NS w/o it (slight exageration, but you get my drift).

I know, just what you wanted to hear...yet another reference book. this one falls just short of what seems to be the requisite 1000 pages (at 968). but the paper is thin and it is actually the size of a paperback. and it will not give you back problems.

poster 1 hit the nail on the head. now for the next part of the question, what are the priorities, interventions, goals? what would you do in these situations? the book details all this information.
