hi, goodoldmitz!

you are asking a very broad question. whole chapters in books are written about this subject of postpartum infections. there can be utis, episiotomy infections, uterine infections (metritis), uri, peritonitis secondary to medical misadventure or bowel rupture secondary to ileus, thrombophlebitis, or mastitis. your patient can't have every infection in the book! what specific infection does your patient have that you are doing this care plan on?

http://www.emedicine.com/med/topic676.htm - endometritis

http://www.emedicine.com/med/topic3240.htm - normal and abnormal puerperium. includes information on endometritis, urinary tract infections, mastitis, eipisotomy infections, septic pelvic thrombophlebitis, postpartum thyroiditis, and lymphocytic hypophysitis.

http://www.emedicine.com/med/obstetricsgynecology.htm - listing of other articles in the ob/gyn section of emedicine.

welcome to allnurses! :welcome:

I am looking for information regarding infections due to 1st degree perilacerations. I used a nursing diagnosis of risk for infection related to decreased skin integrity of the perineal tissue secondary to 1st degree peri laceration.

Does it have to be a nursing reference or will any reference do? I already gave you a reference to episiotomy infections on the eMedicine website.

The information that you sent me was absolutely wonderful!! Thank you so much for your help!!:smiletea:
