I recently read an article in a Canadian journal about the nursing shortage. Why do you think this is happening and what do you think are contributing factors to this?

The gentleman in the cartoon can maybe tell you something about it, since he was one of the ones responsible!!! :D:D
govt. cutbacks=thousands of nurses laid off=nursing shortage=delays in ER, long waitlists for surgery, etc. etc.
REEEALLL simple, but I think some of the politicians STILL don't get it!
Oh, yeah, and after he did all that chopping, and ran for re-election, promising to hire a thousand or so more nurses to mollify all the people who were squawking over the cuts, and screaming that patient's lives were at risk....
HE GOT RE-ELECTED! :angryfire
This was the same politician who said "nurses were as outmoded as hula-hoops"! There was another pre-election cartoon that showed him spinning a hula hoop labelled "1000 new nurses". The title of the cartoon was 'election spin job.' Wish I had a copy of it!
