In our school, we had a 4 hrs orientation prior to the start of school. That helped a lot because the instructors went over what to expect in the first semester, how to study and what we should do and not do. They also offered a class that helps student to transition to the nursing program, which is offered the semester before you enter the program. I personally elected to take that class before I started the actual program. And I felt like it helped a lot. You get to meet the instructor first, get to know people in your class, get a feel on how to study, what to expect, how to write your notes, how nursing process works, what critical thinking meant in nursing, and how life is like as a nursing student.
Honestly, I have heard from second and third semester students and even from instructors that the program is intense, you have to give up EVERYTHING and just study. You cannot do anything else, your life will just be a nursing student.
Well, so far, I feel like I still can manage to have some time with friends if I know how to manage my time well. And really, some are able to keep their part time jobs, but I couldn't. I feel like nursing school takes away most of your time, but you can still find a day in a month just enjoy outing with friends. I also made sure I get time to relax on my own. I mean really everything is about time management. Of course, I am only in the 1st semester, so I know it will get harder and more intense. But I know if you study right, manage your time wisely, exercise, and don't procrastinate, you will be fine!!
But back to the question you were asking, YES, seminar helps!! or if the school offers a class before entering the program it also helps.
Yes I think its helpful. My school does something like this in 2 ways. There's a pre nursing class that introduces you to what nursing school and the nursing profession is like. Its a 1 credit class and its optional. There's talk about making it a requirement. I think they should. It introduced me to NCLEX style questions.
We also have a 2 day seminar called Nursing bootcamp before class starts. Very informative.

Hello Everybody! I am a senior nursing major seeking input from pre- and current nursing students. I wanted to know if a pre nursing seminar would help nursing students with studying and successfully completing nursing school. From person experience, the transition between the general education classes to the nursing classes was very hard. I felt as though I wasn't really prepared for the thinking and studying strategies required for nursing school. As a result, my first year of nursing school was not so great and very stressful. Does anyone feel the same way as me? After that experience, I would like to see if I could help students to prepare for the rigorous nursing schedule and the studying required to get through nursing school by devising a pre-nursing school seminar. I would appreciate anyone's input with this subject. Thank you!!
