Cheap but Decent Stethoscope

Nurses Uniform/Gear

Published

Hello. I just started my first job as a student nursing assistant and I have my certification test next month. I am wondering what is a good model of stethoscope to practice vitals with that won't cost me a lot of money? I just need something decent enough to get me through until after my test. The facility I work at is almost entirely digital so I won't be using the manual stethoscope for too long. Recommendations of models and/or websites to find stethoscopes would be most welcomed!

Litmann Classic II is decent and reasonable. About $70, which isn't much if you are planning to use it long term. I know you are planning on using it for school/testing purposes only, however, you might find that you need it on the job. While you may work at a "digital" facility there will be times where a manual BP will be needed. If you already have your own 'scope you will be ready.

Otherwise, you can pick up a stethoscope at a drug or medical supply store for much cheaper.

Allheart.com's own brand of Cardiology stethoscope. The acoustics are as good as the Littmann Classic II in my opinion, and costs far, FAR less. The list price is around $25, but it frequently goes on sale for $10, or $9.50 if you get two. It gets great reviews on the website as well. After losing 2 Littmanns in the past year, I decided to stock up on a couple of these instead :p

EDIT: Just re-read your post. For simply taking vitals as an NA, any stethoscope from your local nursing uniform place should do.

I used an MDF stethoscope through RN school and use it now every day on the floor. It works perfect
