nursing school

What did you like and dislike about nursing school?

I love:

All the friends I've made

All the interesting things we get to learn about/see

Being able to spend a lot of time with one patient, really getting to know them

All the opportunities to participate in groups/organizations

The feeling of knowing you did a good job in clinical/on an exam

I don't like:

The countless hours I spend studying instead of having fun

Feeling tired often, but not being able to sleep because if I do I'll fall behind

Trying to balance family, work and school, as well as enjoy life a little

Feeling afraid to make a mistake in clinical or do poorly on an exam

But it is going soooo fast and it'll probably be over before I know it, so I try to enjoy the good times and tolerate the not so good ones because when they pass they are gone forever.

Loved learning about Pathophysiology, Critical Care, making really close friends, working with the patients, working in the hospital as an almost nurse for a month in the last semester, graduating in May 2008, reading about diseases, trouble shooting patient's problems

I hated tests, dosage tests, essays, CARE PLANS, spending hours on hours in the library, staying home and studying on the weekend, having 3 tests and 2 papers due in one week, spending 8-12 hours on paperwork a week, cramming before a test.

All in all, nursing school was good. I learned a lot, still have a lot more to learn and can't wait to sign my name as a bona fide registered nurse. You definitely learn who your true friends are in nursing school. My advice is to take each day as it comes, take a deep breath, make a list, and do one task at a time. Also know that nursing school isn't impossible, otherwise there would be no nurses. Lastly, come to this website to get encouragement, laughter, tears, and advice. :twocents:
