Nursing School Lawsuit

A recent thread regarding a supposed settlement involving a nursing program had me searching the internet looking for possible details. I found this article from February and found it interesting.

NURSING STUDENTS SUING DEL MAR PROTEST, AIR THEIR CLAIMS AT COLLEGE

CORPUS CHRISTI — Nursing students suing Del Mar College protested at the college Wednesday morning to raise awareness about their claims that school unfairly blocked them from graduating.

About 20 people participated in the protest at the college’s West Campus, carrying signs that said “Del Mar Crushes Dreams” and “Justice for Nursing Students.”

Nine students filed a lawsuit in late January against the college, claiming they passed their required coursework and all requirements necessary to graduate and get certified to take the national licensing exams, but Del Mar College told them one day before Fall 2011 graduation that they would not be allowed to graduate.

There have been threads related to this type of thing. I thought it was now common practice to require one to pass an exam prior to releasing them to sit for NCLEX. Not sure if there is more going on in this case. Thoughts?

I know this is an old thread, but the claim was that instructors changed grades. Del Mar is terrible! NEVER consistent with anything. They will curve tests one semester and not in another. I know people who had to drop a level and return due to failing a last test. Then when they went back they gave a 10 point curve on the same test the next semester. I had a terrible clinical instructor who thought I wasn't fit to be a nurse. She made sure I didn't pass clinicals. It sucks that Del Mar is the only reasonably priced RN school in the Corpus area.

Anyone want to give me a scholarship to A&M Corpus Christi? J/K but still.

Yes maybe, BUT is was 20 out of a class of about 45. That says something if you ask me.

In the school that I graduated from, an instructor was caught altering the answers of male students on exams so that they would fail. Thanks to tenure, she was still there when I went through - but she was not allowed to grade exams.

So I was in this cohort that graduated in December 2011. The deal was at the end of the last semester. You passed all the class work and you passed with a 75%. We were told we had to take 3 exams I believe we're HESI. We had to pass 2 out of 3 to get the authorization to test. Alot didn't pass both. Other details im leaving out. But pretty much students were trying to try and get the att because they were told they were core complete but would never sit for boards unless they went to another school. They were fighting saying it wasn't fair that in the original syllabus it never mentioned we had 3 tests to take on top of our last class assignments. There was a question of cheating as well with many students on the first exam. To settle the questions, there you go.
