So I am 4 weeks into the CNA certification and pulling all A's. I'm 50, divorcing and have a 7 and 10 year old with no family nearby. I really am getting passionate about nursing and medicine now and I would like to pursue an RN or at the very least LPN, but I'm petrified at the thought of not holding on to my job, and all the schools tell me I won't be able to work while in school. Has anyone been in this situation and do you have advice? I haven't even started a prereq cycle because I don't know how to proceed. Thank you and blessings to all of you courageous people.

Some people can't manage work and nursing school at the same time. Some people can. If you can.. then you do it. Some advise though, if you don't mind.
You're going to be a CNA? Try to find a hospital to work at that provides education assistance. Work for a year and then take them up on it. I had quite a few CNAs in my nursing school that had signed contracts with employers to work for a certain amount of years as a nurse for them after graduation in return for at least partial payment of their education costs.
Not only is that easier on the finances but an employer that is invested in your education has more reason to work around your schedule to insure you get that education. Plus you don't have to scramble to find a nursing job after graduation.
Thank you so much for responding. I do pastoral care work at a hospital who have mentioned to me that they will help place me in a job there once I pass my CNA/PCT boards which thrilled me because they do have a nursing promise program. May I ask if your CNA students are able to keep their shifts while studying? Thank you again.
My friends were. They were exhausted.. but they managed. They all graduated with me and have gone on to work in the hospitals they were CNAs in. One of my friends was a critical care ambulance driver during school, too. There were days there was not enough coffee in the world for them. Still, it's possible.
I won't kid you.. it is exhausting. Studying plus children is exhausting. Studying plus children plus work? You won't see your bed much.. but if this is what you want then it's what you want.
