Nursing School - Basics in Marciopa Community Colleges in AZ

Published

Hello:

I will be taking my NET this week and am planning on submitting my application later in the week. My choice is Mesa-Boswell in Sun City, AZ. If anyone has gone through this application process, at your convenience, can you please answer some of my questions?

1. Did you find the NET test difficult? Was it basic or was it complex in certain areas? I am studying from a NET study guide that I picked up at Glendale Community College.

2. Assuming everything goes well with the NET and I apply at Mesa-Boswell, what happens next? And when will I be able to make my other choices?

3. I have been told there is a 1 1/2 year wait to get into the Maricopa Community Colleges. Is that time frame seem correct for others that are currently waiting?

4. Are there some Maricopa Community Colleges that have shorter waits? Or is it all the same for all the colleges?

5. I have met all my prerequisites (CHM, BIO, Math, etc.). Since there is wait, do you suggest I take additional classes that may benefit me in nursing school?

Thank you all for your time and your help. I really appreciate it.

1. From what I remember on the Net test, it wasn't that hard. But It has been probably 2 years since I took it last.

2. Once you put your application in, you can go to the website (they will tell you the addy) and fill out your choices among the colleges. Then you basically wait. Check it often as there are announcements and stuff, but for the most part you wait until they draw your name. Once your name is picked, they notify you on the website and through mail (or at least that is what they did for me). They will give you instructions on how to proceed from there.

3. I waited about a year. I was picked very last for the semester I got in so I wouldn't be surprised if it is now 1.5 years before getting in. Remember that in AZ it is a lottery system. Some wait 1 semester, some wait 1.5 years.

4. As far as I know all the colleges are using the same lottery pool of applications. Special programs like Banner and JCL are a bit different, but also vary on when they take applicants. You can go the private school route with some other colleges. I don't know if they have a wait or not.

5. I don't know if the prereqs changed or not but I would definitely recommend taking a Pathophys course, nutrition (if still not a pre req) and also get any of your coreqs out of the way.
