I'm taking prereqs right now at a community college for a nursing program. I have an undergrad degree, but I didn't get good grades. But now I'm getting better grades in my prereqs...but I feel like the damage is done because I'm having such a hard time getting into a program because of my GPA and my horrible transcript. My mom told me if all else fails, maybe I should do nursing in Philippines...is that a good idea do you think?? For the most part I don't mind at all because all I want to do is become a nurse...whatever it takes to get the degree. But in reality do you think it's a strange idea??

Nope not at all! I'm considering going to pi for nursing school as well. I know my gpa isn't good enough to compete with other prenursing majors. I received my waitlist contract to Yuba college here in Cali estimated wait is 3-4 years. My mom keeps telling me I'll have a degree already if I wait that long and go to school in the Philippines. I've considered going to private schools around my area but it's so expensive.
I've really given it some serious thought but I think if I stayed in the Philippines I would get sooo homesick.
I say if you want to go to nursing school in the pi do it! I heard they have some really good nursing programs there. :)

Going to The Philippines to complete a nursing degree is not a bad idea. Just try to get in to the top schools such as U.P., De Lasalle, UST. There are other private schools that offer a comprehensive curriculum. Goodluck!

Wow, this is the first time I've ever heard of getting your nursing degree in the Philippines. Is this common? Is the education level the same? When you come back home, do you have to catch up with any credits or training for anything?
I'm intrigued... I've been sitting here for days wracking my brain for how to get all my prereqs done and just take the leap for the BSN or ASN... but there are a lot of obstacles, not to mention a mile long wait list. If it's a good system over there, and they welcome students from elsewhere, and there's no problems coming back here with a degree from there... I might be tempted to look into it, myself...
i'm not sure if it's common?! i have a classmate who's in med school in philippines and she was born and raised here and went to college here. the education level should be the same because i have a cousin who is from philippines and is going to finish nursing; all she has to do is pass the boards and apply to a hospital in the states and she'll have the title of BSN. i don't think you'd need to catch up with anything when u finish the nursing degree in philppines:) but i'm not sure though...it's a plan b for me if i can't get into a school in my state:( So yea look into it yourself...i'm still kinda researching it..
Do you think they'll still take me in even with my bad grades if I applied to schools in philippines?!
