I was teetering on this issue as well. I scoped out both nursing and Radiology boards. some could say being a rad tech is less stressful, which was appealing to me but WHat really sold me to put my application into Nursing school and if I got in, then I knew it was meant to be was..... Many, many radiology techs who had been in the field for many years were being replaced with new grads left and right. Which as a student or new grad sounds great, but as a career, I felt that this wasn't for me, I could not work my whole life to be replaced by a younger, Cheaper worker. More often than not Nurses who are doing their job correctly for many years are respected and not just tossed away for a cheaper version, because there is so much experienced based knowledge in nursing that a seasoned nurse is irreplaceable.
you might want to do some more research on your own and find what will be the best fit for you.
Yeah, I don't think the shortage is "over". I believe there will kinda always be a shortage. Our facilities are feeling the financial crunch just like you and I. Hold on, it's gotta get worse before it can get better. But the other poster is right. Nursing is a great long-term career and choice for stability. Plus there's always room for growth and development.

Hello,
I'm working on pre-reqs for nursing, and it seems the shortage is over in FL based on the postings here. I really want to stay in FL and work in the medical field, so I'm wondering if I should get an AS in radiography instead? Is there more of a need in that area? What about being an LPN? At this point I don't care about money. I just want to survive.
After only being able to teach for 2 years and then getting laid off, I don't want the same thing to happen again in my new field. Please help!
