Nursing programs question?

Hello, my family keeps on telling me it is necessary to get a A to get in a nursing program, is it true?

I am kinda nervous because if I get a B or lower, I would not be accepted in a nursing program.?

Thanks for the info.

Some schools do not base acceptance only on grades. While they do play a big part some take other things into consideration, the application essay, for example, in our school plays a big part among other things. There are people in our program that got a C in one or two classes and are doing really well now.

If it is something that you really want to do then all you can do is try, and if you are not accepted the first time keep applying until you do.

Good luck!!

It depends what kind of nursing program you're looking at. For example, private LVN programs will generally accept anyone with a high school diploma and a pulse [and of course, the money to pay for it]. Many 4 year BSN programs, by contrast, are very competitive. Then there are some 2 year RN programs that fall somewhere in between. For example, one of my local CC programs uses a formula to determine the probability of a student succeeding. In order to be eligable for the program, you need to have above a certain score [which generally translates to about a B average], and then of all those applicants, they use a lottery system. This is just one example, of course, and every program is different. Your best bet is to talk to each individual school that you're considering applying to. If you talk to someone in their admissions department, you can generally get information such as grade requirements for eligibility, as well as the average GPA of all students admitted the previous semester or academic year.

I think that getting in is not as easy as it once was... If you do get in then there is always staying in. I'm in an accelerated program and I have to tell you that getting my BA was easy, now in my 3rd of 4 semesters I will say that if you were weak in your work/study ethic you will probably find nursing programs to be hard... I had a pretty good GPA and did well on my prereqs, for the most part I've carried A's and Bs in my program with the C+ in research.. go figure. I think that with nursing you really have to want it. It you have passion and you committ to it you will do fine.
