Nursing programs at CA public colleges

U.S.A. California

Are there any viable nursing programs in california public colleges at this time?

I've been in an ADN program, but with the budget cuts I'm lucky if I can get more than 3 or 4 units per semester. I don't want to wait 10 years to get a 2 year degree. I don't think it's going to get better any time soon.

I can't afford $30K + to go to a private school in California. I'm just not sure if I should go to another state or go overseas.

wait i'm confused, are you actually IN the program or taking your prerequisites? Usually the nursing program is designed for however many students they accept so you shouldn't encounter this unless they cut the program to part time. The prerequisites you would encounter this in any community college in California. I went to 5 different community colleges to get all my prerequisites done. School hopping can help you get into the prereqs and general eds faster. My husband got into A & P on his 1st try at a college he hadn't been to before, but got him on the waitlist the second he was allowed to sign up and checked several times a day until a spot opened up. You end up having to be pretty persistent. I don't know if any other state is different. I know my ADN took me 8 years, I did however get my LVN first and took a couple years off to work.

No, it's prerequisites. I've been jumping around the Los Rios system, which is 4 colleges in the Sacramento Valley and I still can't get more than 1 class at a time. There aren't many other places to go within 50 miles.

Last semester I couldn't get into anything. I went to a couple of classes for several weeks where I was high on the waiting list, hoping someone would drop or the teacher would let me in, but no luck.

I would probably be wasting my time anyway because the chance of getting a spot in a public nursing school are so small.

I have trouble believing there are no nursing schools under $20K in the entire US where you can go to school full-time.

If it's going to take this long I would rather go out of state or overseas and get it over with.
